David Marion Named an Influencer of Law by The Philadelphia Inquirer
Senior Counsel David Marion was named one of The Philadelphia Inquirer’s 2018 Influencers of Law in the area of Litigation and Dispute.
The nominees were reviewed by an esteemed panel of experts and were judged on their accomplishments in their legal practice, impact on business and service to the community. Winners were recognized during an awards program and profiled in the Sunday Business section of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
David was recognized for his notable litigation career. David successfully argued the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc. v. Hepps, which expanded First Amendment protection for news media. He represented another newspaper in a Pennsylvania Supreme Court case liberalizing standards for the grant of summary judgment. A few other noteworthy victories include: substantial plaintiffs’ jury verdicts in a business tort case against a broadcast network, a consumers’ vertical price-fixing antitrust class action, and the defense of a major public utility in precedent-setting federal ERISA class actions. David has also successfully defended cases and class actions involving claims of conspiracy, antitrust, ERISA, RICO and Civil Rights Act violations, has represented numerous other law firms and lawyers, and acted as court-appointed receiver and special master as well as mediator and arbitrator in alternate dispute resolution situations.
David was the recipient of the 2017 James Wilson Award, presented by the University of Pennsylvania Law School's Alumni Society Board of Managers and the 2013 Learned Hand Award from the American Jewish Committee. He has been listed in Chambers USA as a leading lawyer in commercial litigation since the honor's inception in 2003 and is described as a "very highly regarded trial attorney." Since 2004, David has been selected in a survey of his peers as a Pennsylvania "Super Lawyer" by Super Lawyers. He is uniquely listed by Best Lawyers in America in six categories of law practice.
