8.12.24

We are saddened to share that Michael J. Mentzel, recently retired Partner with White and Williams, passed away on August 7, 2024.

Mike was a loyal friend and colleague whose legal career spanned more than 35 years. He joined White and Williams in 1989 after having served as in-house counsel to an oil company in Stamford, Connecticut, and as an associate with the firm Liebert, Short & Hirshland.

His practice and talents were multi-faceted. With over 35 years of experience in a broad commercial and transactional practice, Mike served as outside general counsel to many clients who valued his business acumen, creativity and responsiveness. He possessed extensive experience in the areas of general business, corporate and nonprofit law, representing entities of all sizes but concentrating on the middle market. He was instrumental in the firm's Healthcare practice, where he represented founders and businesses in the medical, pharmaceutical and biotech industries in their commercial arrangements.

Among the recognitions he received, Mike was named among The Best Lawyers in America® 2024 for Health Care Law. He was a member of ACG Philadelphia, Pennsylvania BIO, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Philadelphia Bar Association. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, JD, and from Drexel University, BS, summa cum laude.

We will miss Mike and his many talents and contributions to the firm. As a mentor to a generation of White and Williams attorneys, his skills and influence will live on at the firm for decades to come. On behalf of the entire White and Williams family, we extend our sincere condolences to Mike's wife, Maria Rita (Peronace), his beloved children, Erica (Andrew) Garcia, Michael (Hana Fudala), Maria (Bruce McElwee), and his four grandchildren and brother, Eric (Meredith Beck).
