Jay Shapiro Comments on Proposed Broadband Privacy Rules and Verizon Settlement
The FCC has proposed regulations for broadband ISP services on the heels of a $1.35 million settlement with Verizon Wireless about its use of "supercookies." Jay Shapiro, co-chair of the Cyber Law and Data Protection Group, was asked to comment on the settlement saying it "demonstrates the FCC's willingness to take action on behalf of consumers in privacy protection." He added, in light of the settlement, that "full disclosure by ISP's about their practices in gathering information is encouraged."
