Jay Shapiro Comments on Proposed New York "Textalyzer" Bill
A proposed bill in the state of New York would allow cellphone metadata to be collected without a warrant to determine if distracted driving, by cellphone use, was involved in a car accident. Jay Shapiro, Co-Chair of the Cyber Law and Data Protection group, noted in ABA Journal article that the current process for a district attorney to subpoena a phone company is "not practical." He also weighs in on the application of a Supreme Court case to New York's proposed legislation.
