OVERVIEW
Randy Maniloff concentrates his practice in the representation of insurers in coverage disputes over primary and excess obligations under a host of policies, including commercial general liability, various professional liability, liquor liability and policies covering Indian Tribes. He has significant experience in coverage matters involving construction defects, including additional insured and contractual indemnity issues. Randy is assisting insurers with a variety of first-party and third-party claims arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Randy was named the U.S. News – Best Lawyers® 2020 Insurance Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Philadelphia. Since 2009, he has been named as one of The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Insurance Law. He has been recognized by Chambers USA as a leading lawyer in insurance, with one source describing him as having "an encyclopedic knowledge of insurance coverage."
Randy is an adjunct professor at Temple University Beasley School of Law where he teaches Insurance Law.
Randy is the co-author of “General Liability Insurance Coverage – Key Issues in Every State” (5th edition). "Key Issues” is a nearly 1,000 page desk reference book that quickly and conveniently provides the law in every state for 20 important liability coverage issues. Randy publishes Coverage Opinions, a free insurance coverage newsletter, with thousands of subscribers, that reports and provides commentary on just-released coverage decisions, looks at the lighter side of the law and includes Randy’s interviews, usually with some of the most famous and unique lawyers in America. Randy has interviewed 120 individuals, including Judge Judy, John Grisham, James Patterson, Scott Turow, Samantha Power, Justice Stephen Breyer, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Henry Winkler, Gloria Allred, Marcia Clark, David Baldacci, Leon Panetta, Preet Bharara, Vernon Jordan and numerous judges, United States senators, governors and presidential cabinet members. Randy's Coverage Opinions newsletter, and his award-winning stand-up comedy, was the subject of a feature in The Philadelphia Lawyer magazine.
Randy is a frequent lecturer at industry seminars and has been quoted on insurance coverage topics by such media as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, Dow Jones Newswires, Associated Press, The Philadelphia Inquirer and Forbes. He has published several Op-Eds in The Wall Street Journal addressing legal issues.
Randy is a frequent contributor of articles to numerous insurance publications, addressing a variety of insurance coverage topics. For the past twenty-two years, he has published a year-end article that addresses the ten most significant insurance coverage decisions of that year.
Randy was elected as a Fellow to The American College of Coverage Counsel and is a member of The American Law Institute.
Before entering private practice, Randy spent four years working overseas as counsel to a Gibraltar-based insurance company conducting business primarily in the United Kingdom.

In October 2014, Randy was elected as a member of the American Law Institute, the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize and otherwise improve the law. At that time Randy was one of three new members from Pennsylvania, along with a federal judge and Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice.
Randy has been recognized by the Chambers USA Guide from 2019-2024 as a leading attorney in Pennsylvania Insurance law. Since 2009, Randy has been named by U.S. News and World Report - Best Lawyers as a "Best Lawyer" in the area of Insurance Law. Since 2006, Randy was selected in a survey of his peers as a Pennsylvania "Super Lawyer" by Super Lawyers. Randy has also been a finalist for LexisNexis’s national Insurer Attorney of the Year.
